It's gotten better since he was killed so brutally, but we're not totally out of the woods yet.Casey Frazeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12427992091806238405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7483782288947502813.post-42159678290791392042009-06-19T22:15:21.239+02:002009-06-19T22:15:21.239+02:00Agreed that it doesn't happen as often, but it...Agreed that it doesn't happen as often, but it does happen, and still fairly often. And our own gov doesn't seem to want to admit to their usefullness. We've had the 47th (don't quote me on that but I am pretty sure) linguist/translator booted from the army for don't ask don't tell. We can't get through the potential intelligence gathered because no one can read it, it might as well be written in Unicorn. Speaking of, Unicorns are about as rare as a straight man that is also interested in working a somewhat dangerous job and ALSO interested in studying rare middle eastern linguistics. But, as usual, we are getting slightly off topic. The bottom line, if you want to be gay, move to Canada, they are a peace loving group and even their police don't carry guns.RoseAnn Nicolaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14700706810942381111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7483782288947502813.post-32379238929396392982009-06-19T19:58:59.975+02:002009-06-19T19:58:59.975+02:00Very good points Lisa. I suppose it's more of the contrast and that these feelings of "real" men not being gay and not able to cry is very evident being here and looking back at America. I agree with you that men may be ridiculed in America if they do cry, but are they beat up? Killed? There's at least an awareness if not a complete acceptance. But I do agree with you, the culture isn't to the point that we'd all be totally okay seeing men cry in public, on TV, wherever. Oh Lisa, how I miss our conversational debates : )Casey Frazeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12427992091806238405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7483782288947502813.post-54835111733079979582009-06-19T19:46:05.768+02:002009-06-19T19:46:05.768+02:00I suppose it is funny that you defend the McNelly ...I suppose it is funny that you defend the McNelly combo, but most of this clearly not funny. Which I guess is acceptable even from you. While we may be more willing to let our men cry and be sensititive, I think that type of upbringing is still more rare than you are mentioning, and that it is said but not true. We tell men it is okay to cry and okay to feel the feelings but as a culture, I feel that when they do, they are often ridiculed for doing exactly what we told them was okay to do.RoseAnn Nicolaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14700706810942381111noreply@blogger.com
